Estimating the contribution of the prostate to blood dihydrotestosterone
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14602751

Quote:
The prostate strongly expresses type 2 5 alpha-reductase, which avidly converts on entry most testosterone (T) to 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT). However, the quantitative contribution of the prostate to blood DHT is uncertain. We evaluated prostatic contribution to blood DHT by comparing the blood DHT concentrations in androgen-deficient patients with or without a prostate while they were receiving standard dose of T replacement.

Quote:
Correction for covariates, including age, height, weight, body surface area, and body mass index, did not influence the lack of significant difference between treated groups. As both modes of T administration yielded similar plasma DHT concentrations regardless of the presence of a prostate, this study indicates that the normal human prostate is not a major contributor to circulating blood DHT concentrations.

I thought people would have more to say about this. Does this study not prove anyone wrong who says "we cant be 5ar2 deficient because we all have normal dht".

Im not saying that we are 5ar2 def. but the above logic is essentially wrong.

This bit of info is important and relevant to our situation. Blood DHT just doesnt tell us enough, one way or another.

A better thread on the global functioning of the relevant enzymes is this highly confusing thread that I started: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4674. It does reveal deficiencies.

A regional (ie. just in the prostate) 'destruction' of enzymes cannot be dismissed either.

Yes i know the thread, basicly everyone who took finasteride is deficient.

Im not 100% sure what you mean here, yes sure it may just be enzymes in the prostate damage, for the peolple who have erectile dysfunction only.

Regional enzyme dystruction can also explain brain fog (brain), ejaculation disorders (seminal vescial), penile insensitivity (penis skin), seems like anywhere there is 5ar2 there is a problem.

I guess a good test for us, if it is available would be testing for prostate only dht, some sort of biopsy?
